Morocco, Part 2—The Sahara and Marrakech

Here are some more photos from our trip to Morocco.  The first bunch are from our overnight trip into the Sahara desert.  The rest of the photos are from the drive from the desert to Marrakech and from Marrakech.

Watch out for those camels.

Mom. On a camel!

Into the wilderness.
Fantastic shadows in the afternoon light.

The dunes were gorgeous.

I love the play of light on the beautiful dunes.

In the bedouin camp where we spent the night.  We were the only ones there that night.

Eating our delicious dinner.

Enjoying the fire on a very cold night.

I managed to get one good star trails picture before the moon rose.

Moon setting behind the dunes.

Me watching the sunrise.

Me and Mom inside our tent.

Woman in a little village on our way to Ouarzazate.

Donkeys were a common form of transportation in the rural areas.

On our way to the remote auberge where we spent the night on our way to Marrakech.

Another star trails picture.  This one was taking at Oasis Fint.

The type of trucks we had to share the narrow, winding, two-lane road over the High Atlas Mountains with.

A caravan of donkeys.

Me in our beautiful riad in Marrakech.

Spices for sale in Marrakech.

Mosque silhouetted against the setting sun in Marrakech.

Mom and Dad in Djemaa el-Fna Square in Marrakech.

Walking through the Marrakech medina in the evening.
You catch the very tail end of the call to prayer at the beginning of the video.

  1. Such vibrant and lively memories of the time in Morocco. Especially enthralled by the camel trek across the dunes and the lovely shadows trailing. What an amazing introduction to Africa.
