Morocco, Part 2—The Sahara and Marrakech

Here are some more photos from our trip to Morocco.  The first bunch are from our overnight trip into the Sahara desert.  The rest of the photos are from the drive from the desert to Marrakech and from Marrakech.

Watch out for those camels.

Mom. On a camel!

Into the wilderness.
Fantastic shadows in the afternoon light.

The dunes were gorgeous.

I love the play of light on the beautiful dunes.

In the bedouin camp where we spent the night.  We were the only ones there that night.

Eating our delicious dinner.

Enjoying the fire on a very cold night.

I managed to get one good star trails picture before the moon rose.

Moon setting behind the dunes.

Me watching the sunrise.

Me and Mom inside our tent.

Woman in a little village on our way to Ouarzazate.

Donkeys were a common form of transportation in the rural areas.

On our way to the remote auberge where we spent the night on our way to Marrakech.

Another star trails picture.  This one was taking at Oasis Fint.

The type of trucks we had to share the narrow, winding, two-lane road over the High Atlas Mountains with.

A caravan of donkeys.

Me in our beautiful riad in Marrakech.

Spices for sale in Marrakech.

Morocco, Part 1

Here is the first set of pictures from our recent trip to Morocco and Spain.  The pictures aren't really in any order.  Enjoy!

On the road to Chefchaouen.  It always seemed to be the women doing the heavy lifting.

Two boys in Chefchaouen.

Enjoying the weather in Chefchaouen.

Moonrise on our first night in Morocco.  I made Dad pull over so I could get this shot.

Storks in a Dr Seuss tree in Rabat.

Friendship is the same everywhere.

Storks keeping watch over the Chellah in Rabat.

Mom and me at the King's tomb in Rabat.

Old man in front of a mosque in the Fes medina.

Overlooking the Fes medina.

The streets of the medina are so narrow they have to use donkeys and horses to bring goods in and out.

Me in front of the blue gate in Fes.

Barbary ape enjoying some bread.

Moon set over Fes.

Barren landscape on our way to the Sahara.
